Random Musings

First and foremost, my best friend is in town from Wisconsin.  Jackie and I met in the 7th grade (21 years ago) and have been friends ever since.  She is the most wonderful, caring, funny woman I know and I love her deeply.  Since she moved away a few years ago I only see her about once a year, which is not enough, but I suck it up anyway because she is happy in Wisconsin.

While she's been doing her own thing with her boyfriend, we've also had the chance to play a bit, too.  Pizza and salsa and beer and gelato and mountain views...Oh my!

While she is here, we are also going to take a little road trip.  I am officially going back to school and must travel to Prescott, Arizona for my Orientation at Prescott College.  Orientation falls smack dab in the middle of Jackie's trip, so she's coming with me and we're going to play in Arizona together when my orientation schedule allows.  I've never been there before, so it should be interesting.  I will come back an official student (studying Transpersonal Psychology with a focus on education and the environment...some day soon I'll write more about this) and will then begin the juggling act of work, school, family and garden.  Luckily, it's the slow season at work and in the garden so I'm hoping I can get myself balanced before the madness of spring begins.

I was planning to rent a car to drive us out to Prescott, but Tool Lady kept saying I should save the money and take her truck.  Mind you, I have a car that works perfectly, but it's 20 years old and the idea of traveling several hundred miles in it makes me a bit nervous.  Then, on Friday, on our way home, we got in a bit of an accident.  Some young man ran a stop sign and creamed us.  We're both OK (so is he)  and Tool Lady's truck will survive (not so sure about his car...YAY for big trucks!), but it's going to be at the Truck Doctor for a while, so I'm renting a car so Tool Lady can use mine while I'm gone.  Such is life.

On the gardening front, the yellow Taxis are winding down, just as the Italian Heirlooms, Romas and Brandywines are winding up.

I've pulled 90% of our bush beans (the remaining 10% will become the beans we collect as next years seed) so I can continue putting in the fall crops.  This morning I put in a few more rows of carrots, beets and spinach and am excited that everything I've put in the bed so far seems to be germinating perfectly.

On my way inside after planting this morning, I accidently dropped a bunch of carrot seeds on the stump that was acting as my table.  As I was gingerly attempting to pick them up, one by one, I noticed a pretty little sprout making it's way out of the stump.  Not sure what other seeds I've dropped here, but whatever it is, it looks like it's making a go of it.

While I'm a little intimidated by the whole process of going back to school, new beginnings are truly a blessing and I'm taking this little sprout as a sign.

I hope that you're day has been wonderful, where ever your path has taken you.  Cheers!
