My 1st Canning Experience - Pickles and Yellow Tomato & Basil Jam!!!

Alright, it's time to talk about losing my canning virginity...Mostly so I can give you the link to the magic in a jar!

So, I recently saw this recipe on the fantastic blog Food in Jars and knew, that since we have so many yellow taxi tomatoes laying around, that I had to make this!  Despite my never having canned a single thing before (in my entire life) and a little anxiety (I am a creature of habit) I made the leap!

All in all, this was a great first experience!  I am completely satisfied!  Oh!  And the taste???  Fantastic!!!  Almost like a marmalade!   But better :-)

Yes, I also made pickles.  At the same time.  Not really sure what I was thinking...but it WAS just a basic recipe...nothing complicated.  But the kitchen?  My goodness...it looked like an explosion happened!!!  Holy hell!!!  Oh well...I cleaned it up with a smile on my face and couldn't be any happier!  Or prouder.  Happy canning!

  1. Canning is addicting! Welcome to the club. Wait till you start canning things like Marinara sauce or Strawberry jam! Your kitchen might look like someone was murdered in it ;)
