Reuniting Kids w/ Nature - Photo Scavenger Hunt

A camera, scavenger hunt list below or one you’ve created on your own.

TIME FRAME:
30- 60 minutes

  • Something smooth
  • Something rough
  • Something brightly-colored
  • Something green
  • Something slimy
  • Something wet
  • Something that has cracks in it
  • Two stones or rocks of different sizes
  • Two stones or rocks of different colors
  • A flower
  • Movement
  • An insect
  • Pinecones
  • Two different kinds of leaves
  • Bark
  • An interesting-looking twig
  • A small, furry creature, such as a squirrel
  • A bird
  • A pet (such as a dog)
  • Moss
  • Grass

REFLECTION:
Which was your favorite item to photograph?  Were there any photos that you didn’t like?  Why or why not?  Which items did you photograph that were not on the list?  If you were to create your ideal Photo Scavenger Hunt, what items would you put on it?

IMAGININGS :
Imagine that there are no boundaries!  Imagine that you can take a photo of anything you’d like and call it anything you’d like!  What would you photograph?  Would you photograph something someone else might call smooth, but you thing it is the most fantastic, textured object ever?  Use your imagination, get creative and don’t be afraid to label things however, you want to instead of how everyone else things you should!

This activity is part of a series of low cost, hands on activities that can be used by anyone who has a passion for nature and who believes that a child's time spent in nature is not only important, but necessary.  Each activity was either created by me or gathered from a variety of sources.  You can find the complete list of all of the activities on my Nature Activities tab.
