It seems that, recently, "vitamin water" has become all the rage. Not the kind you buy in the store (with all of its sugar and artificial colors), but the kind you throw together at home using whatever you have on hand.
We have done this for the past few years, usually with one or two additions (mint by itself, mint and cucumber, cucumber and lemon, lemon by itself, lemon balm...). Recently though, we got creative and made a pitcher of water with lemon, mint and strawberries! Fancy, right? And oh so delicious!
I, personally, have a very hard time drinking water by itself. I know it's good for me...I know it's necessary for life...I just don't really like it and don't drink nearly enough of it on a daily basis. However, when we make Fancy Water (ie: water with pretty much anything added to it), I will drink plenty and be very happy for it!
So, in addition to hydrating me, I thought I'd look up a few benefits of our Fancy Water as an extra added incentive to keep drinking it! Here are just a few positive (potential*) health benefits of the items we like to add to our water to make it Fancy...
Mint
- helps digestion
- helps nausea and headaches
- helps with respiratory disorders
Lemon
- helps with indigestion & constipation
- helps fight fever
Strawberries
- help boost immunity
- help fight inflammation
Lemon Balm
- helps to calm nervous agitation
- helps with digestion
- helps with insomnia
Cucumbers
- help with hydration
- help bad breath
- help relieve gout and arthritis pain
*I am not an expert, but I will happily Google and cross reference anything if I'm curious enough about it ;-)
Cheers to a summer full of hydration, friends, family and fun!

Personally I enjoy drinking water but will have to try adding a few of these too. the strawberries sound particularly beneficial and I guess you can still eat them afterwards?
ReplyDeleteYes! You can eat the strawberries after :-) Extra, added bonus!
DeleteNow that is fancy. :)
