While it may not be the most beautiful creation I've ever put my hand to, I do believe it is a pretty good representation of our tiny piece of property. It is as to-scale as I could get it using a graph-paper-like feature in Visio. In addition, I had to get a bit creative with the limited objects available through the free trail of Visio. With all that being said, it's nice to have a birds eye view of our property that's not hand drawn on graph paper, spanning four sheets of said paper ;-)
Oh! Also, just in case it is not clear, the area on the other side of our long diagonal wall in the backyard is technically our property, though it more belongs to the city and is (obviously) on the other side of our wall... which means we can do things to it, but we have to be willing to go the extra distance (literally) and fully accept if the city ever decided to (or needed to) tear out whatever we do to it. Easements are silly sometimes.
This picture will now live on our 1/8 Acre page where there is a brief synopsis of most everything we've squeezed into our little plot in the last few years in an effort to grow more of our food while keeping laying hens and bees.
Now, I'd love to hear from you! Have you ever created something similar? Is there a favorite program you have used to create such representations? Have you hand drawn your property and it's features? Please share your stories! Also, I cannot seem to figure out how to make the picture appear larger in order to make it easier to see and read. I tried playing with the aspect ratios, but have not been successful. If you have any tips, I'd love to hear them!

That's so neat! I have drawn out my property before, by hand and using Visio. I actually still have some drawings I made of my first house and garden I got in 1981. I haven't used Visio in years though, and I don't have it now.
ReplyDelete1981? How wonderful! I hope to one day have a large piece of property like yours and be able to look back (literally) at where we started!
DeleteVisio is a great tool, and I am excited to see your plan. I have a hand drawn picture of the property, but I use the gardening tool online to plan out the vegetable gardens every year.
ReplyDeleteI never looked at your 1/8 acre page, but I am now going to catch up.
It's nice to be able to see it all in one place (as opposed to the four sheets of hand drawn yard and home)! It reminds me of all that we've done and why I'm so tired all the time ;-)
DeleteVery impressive drafting!
ReplyDeleteWe've been fooling around with Sketch Up, but that's more for our building projects.
I've never heard of Sketch Up...I'll check it out :-)
