So, while I do homework, read blogs and play on Etsy, Tool Lady likes to check out Craigslist. She looks at properties (and tortures us both with the beautiful photos of acreage that we can't afford just yet) and looks at all the random miscellaneous that is Craigslist. Usually, it all amounts to a whole lot of nothing. However, a couple of night ago, she found a listing for a juicer. Well, we've been looking for a juicer, a good juicer, a masticating juicer for a while now. So, she called, and a nice old lady told her she could come pick it up. She said it was brand new, but we didn't really believe her. Brand new? Really?
Yes, really! She was telling the truth! This thing had never even been out of the plastic bubble wrap it came from the factory in!
What did we pay? A measely $100! Alright, $100 is nothing to sneeze at, but we paid cash for it and have declared it our Christmas gift to each other :-) Also, since this baby is literally brand new, it's worth at least $250! Another score!!! Not only does it juice, but it will also grind wheat and coffee and make pasta!!!
So, we immediately unpacked it all, rinsed it off and started juicing some of the random produce we had in the fridge...carrots, kale, a beet, a banana (not in the fridge) and a lemon...and some of the wheat grass we've started growing under our grow lights!
With some of the carrot leftovers, we decided to make some carrot cake muffins :-)
Fish Girl, after mixing the batter with her hands, tried to start a war with Tool Lady. She was unsuccessful, but I'm thinking Tool Lady is just waiting for the perfect time for payback ;-)
The remaining pulp went out to the chickens...
And the juice, once we got past the crazy colors of it all, was happily consumed!
Yay for Craigslist scores!!!
what a score!!! i hear good things about that juicer. love that you used the carrot pulp for muffins!
ReplyDeleteThat looks brilliant, i cant believe it makes pasta too! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ladies! I think I will have to write lots of posts about all the magical things it does! We're so excited!
ReplyDeleteWe have a juicer too (though it doesn't make pasta, ha!). We don't use it as often as we should, but we do love it. It's amazing how much flavor you can get from veggies and fruits. That inspires me to juice something this week. Need to do that. Enjoy!!
ReplyDelete1st Man - Yeah...it's one of those things that I hope doesn't wind up collecting dust on the counter top! The fact that it does so much, though, leaves me hopeful that it'll get LOTS of use :-) Happy juicing!
