The Little Things

The Little Things has been my way of taking a moment to slow down, acknowledge and appreciate some of the little things in life!  It's been a while since I've done a Little Things post (you can see some of my favorite posts here, here & here), but I thought with the new year upon us, there's no time like the present to begin again!

In addition to beginning it again I'd also like to turn it into a regular feature and intend to branch out in a couple of ways by:
  1. Inviting you to join in!  I think happiness is best when shared and I love to see what others are enjoying :-)  So, every Saturday I will be opening this space for you to share a link to anything joyful or inspiring in the comments section below...a photo, a poem or song, a recipe, a new craft, your favorite post from the week...anything you like!
  2. Expanding it to include not only photos (as has been the case in the past), but maybe a poem, a video, a link to something that has inspired me or brought me happiness throughout the week :-)

There's enough bad news floating around out there...

Let's share some good news!

So, to start us off, here's a couple of Little Things from this week that have brought me joy...

Homemade vanilla ice cream with piping hot cranberry chutney on top!  This is definitely one of my favorite things!

I love this piece of art!  It was created by Prakash, my tattoo artist (you can find more of his work on his facebook page or on his website).  He posted this pic on his facebook page last weekend and I am now saving up so I can buy one of these prints!  Why do I love it so much!  1) The colors! Oh, I just love the colors!  2) Fish Girl is a Boar and I am a Dragon in Chinese astrology (Can you find the Dragon???) which makes this piece of art pretty much perfect!

While we haven't jumped into solar energy for our house yet, it makes me very happy that so many people are!

Seeds are little things that bring me great joy!  And giving away some seeds will give me even more joy!  So, here's my first seed giveaway!  This week, I'm giving away our Bush Bean Trio (which has been produced wonderfully for us and includes Blue Lake 274, Cherokee Wax & Purple Queen bush beans)!  All you have to do to enter to win some seeds is to leave a comment below stating that you'd like some beans and sharing something that brings you joy.  I'll pick two winners (randomly) at the end of the week and post the winner in next Saturdays Little Things post (so you have a week to enter)!

Now, if you would like to simply join in the happiness of sharing a link to a Little Thing that brings you joy, please leave a comment below and a link to whatever has brought you joy this week.  If you are linking back to your blog, please link back here so others can join in, too!

I can't wait to see what you share!

  4. The little things that have brought me the most joy this week are things that would normally be taken for granted by parents of developmentally normal kids. However, my second son suffers from autism and most of his triumphs are things that other parents take for granted....and I would know..I rarely make not of these things when my youngest does them because they come so easy to her. This week my son, who was non-verbal until two years ago told me good morning and the he loved me without prompting and whenever I think of it is still moves me to tears. I have so much to be grateful for.

  5. Put me in the bidding! Watching seeds sprout and thrive makes me happy. BTW, and this is not a bribe, I saw that you wanted marigold seeds - I have seeds for a tall, bushy variety with orange flowers, if you want them....

Brie - Ha! You are officially entered! And, if you don't win, I'd love to do a seed exchange with you! Those marigolds sound divine!
