Harvest Monday

Happy Monday everyone!

This first full week of the New Year has brought us a bit of a new harvest as well...Spinach!!!  It's not much, but we'll take it!  Especially since it grew in the hoop houses/wagons and they've been struggling so much!

We also harvested a few more mixed greens from under our grow lights, but I didn't take any pictures of them.

This weeks totals:
  • Mixed greens = 3 ounces
  • Spinach = 2 ounces

  1. Congratulations on the addition of fresh spinach to your winter harvest line up! I actually just finished up the winter bed of spinach and am seriously wishing I had another bed going. I really do love spinach and miss it when it is done.

  2. MMMmmmm LOVE spinach. I have about 30 seedlings, but they just can't seem to get going this year!

  3. You have to love a harvest this time of year, no matter what the size. Our winter spinach was set back really far by a infestation of leaf miners. Even now that they are under control we still only have one plant that has really recovered. I guess this year we will have to wait till things really start warming up for spinach.

  4. It is just mind boggling to me that folks are still harvesting even though it has been and exceptional open winter. Certainly wouldn't work here as even a mild winter brings us below freezing temperatures most every day.

  6. We had a very similar harvest in our cold frame -3 ounces of red leaf lettuce. It hardly makes a dinner salad for one, yet is so encouraging in January. I hope you're hoop houses keep giving you something, anything through the rest of winter.

  7. What did you make with your spinach - I hope it was fabulous, actually I bet it was as I find winter veg taste even better by being scarcer.

  8. kitsapFG - Spinach is one of my favorite veggies, so I'm super excited to have it back! I'd almost lost hope!

Barbie - Yay for seedlings! All my fall veggies have been taking forever to produce anything! Your spinach will come and the wait will make it all the more delicious!

Stoney Acres - Ugh, I'm sorry to hear about your leaf miners! I'm glad that you still have one healthy plant! I bet it'll produce wonderfully for you once it gets it's roots under it!

wilderness - Below freezing every day?! That sounds awful!

Norma - Happy ordering! I love the anticipation of the next season! So much planning and hope!

Jody - Thanks! I agree, anything this time of year is really a blessing! Your harvest this week was awesome! Congrats!

  9. Any amount is exciting! Hopefully this coming fall and winter we'll be armed with lots of greens. :)
Are you going to the Organic Conference in Feb?

  10. Angela - Most definitely! I look forward to the bounty! I hadn't heard about the conference until now! I must be out of some loop! I goggled it , found it, checked it out and am thinking ti's probably not going to work this year. It looks pretty darn awesome though! Are you going?
