Our journey to producing more and consuming less on 1/8 acre in the middle of the city. Urban farming, through keeping backyard chickens and a top bar hive of honey bees, practicing organic vegetable gardening, taking care of several fruit trees, maintaining a compost pile, canning and preserving our harvests and trying our best to do it all ourselves using reclaimed materials where possible.

My silverbeet, bok choi and sorrel plants have all discovered how much chickens like greens. All went from beautiful specimens to hole ridden and very sad looking plants when I let the hens free range throughout the garden. Currently working on ways of fencing areas off.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, they will eat them all down to the ground if allowed! Unfortunately, this is why our chickens aren't allowed to free range all year round. It is why, however, I so thoroughly enjoy treating them to greens in their run every chance I get :-)
DeleteWe definitely need to see more of these posts. This was hilarious! You could create your own cartoon strip :) Cheers, Jenni
ReplyDeleteLol...thanks, Jenni! It was fun to be part of it as it all unfolded ;-)
DeleteWell done -- great fun!
