Bee Update

Well, after a super warm winter and their relocation to the back yard, we finally got into our bees yesterday.  While they have adapted nicely to their new spot and have looked healthy from afar, it was honestly way passed time for us to get into the actual hive.  So, Tool Lady took a personal day off of work and I went in late to work so we could explore the hive on a beautiful, sunny morning.  Here's what we found:

  • Capped brood
  • A bit of leftover honey
  • Our queen!
  • A very sporadic laying pattern
  • Great perspective
  • An appreciation for the fact that bees don't like wax moth larva either
  • A creepy mystery (do you see that?!)
  • Happy bees
Now we get to leave them alone again to do their thing :-)  Yay for pollinators!

  1. What IS that white "creature"? Mutant bee? So nice to see your hives survived Winter and the move and you do have some honey waiting for you.

    Great job!

    1. Yeah...that's the best we can figure! Weird, right?! Oh...we can't wait for a bit of honey later in the season! We got a little taste and it was magical!

  3. It's been so rainy and cold here that I haven't wanted to disturb the temp of the hive by opening it, but I hope when I do I don't find a Frankenbee! LOL

    1. Ugh...I'd take the rainy part, but not the cold. Everything is so far ahead of itself I am super hopeful it won't get too cold at this point! Best to wait to open your hive until you hit a warm spot :-) I hope they're doing well and that you have no Frankenbees! ;-)
