- Capped brood
- A bit of leftover honey
- Our queen!
- A very sporadic laying pattern
- Great perspective
- An appreciation for the fact that bees don't like wax moth larva either
- A creepy mystery (do you see that?!)
- Happy bees
Our journey to producing more and consuming less on 1/8 acre in the middle of the city. Urban farming, through keeping backyard chickens and a top bar hive of honey bees, practicing organic vegetable gardening, taking care of several fruit trees, maintaining a compost pile, canning and preserving our harvests and trying our best to do it all ourselves using reclaimed materials where possible.

What IS that white "creature"? Mutant bee? So nice to see your hives survived Winter and the move and you do have some honey waiting for you.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Yeah...that's the best we can figure! Weird, right?! Oh...we can't wait for a bit of honey later in the season! We got a little taste and it was magical!
DeleteWhat a hive of activity......fantastic photos and what a great way to spend a day off checking on your bees.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andrea! We were very happy to find them healthy and busy getting ready for the season ahead :-)
DeleteIt's been so rainy and cold here that I haven't wanted to disturb the temp of the hive by opening it, but I hope when I do I don't find a Frankenbee! LOL
ReplyDeleteUgh...I'd take the rainy part, but not the cold. Everything is so far ahead of itself I am super hopeful it won't get too cold at this point! Best to wait to open your hive until you hit a warm spot :-) I hope they're doing well and that you have no Frankenbees! ;-)
DeleteSo cool! I see the queen in your photo - amazing.
