Social Media and the internet really are amazing things.  Who knew?!  A couple of weeks ago I saw a facebook post from Kitchen Gardeners International that mentioned a journalist was looking for garden bloggers who had ideas about up-cycling to share.  I emailed in and found myself quickly talking to Jennifer Steil, the journalist who was putting together a piece for ivillage.com.  I wound up submitting 5 ideas, not knowing what would happen, but last night I found my ideas featured under the Home & Garden section of ivillage!

DIY Month: 16 Gardening Ideas from Our Favorite Bloggers has 16 great ideas from a few garden bloggers (whose blogs I am now enjoying exploring) including yours truly :-)  My ideas are #2 (kiddie pool turned potato patch...I'll post a proper piece about this here shortly) and #12 (old pallet turned vertical mini garden) and I am super excited about it!

My photos were also used for the toilet paper roll turned seed starting pod idea (#11) even though the language is not my own (you know, two bloggers, one idea, photo confusion, it happens).

Anyhow, pop on over to ivillage and check it all out!  Happy up-cycling!!!

Since I first saw your post on the vertical wooden pallets, I wanted to try it- but I have no idea where to get one without buying a new one. :)

    1. Ask around at local grocery stores or feed bin. Some times they might want to charge you because they can get credit from their suppliers for them, but it shouldn't be much. Also, check craiglist :-) Happy hunting!

  3. Thank you so much for the kiddie pool as potato growing pot idea. My Great Dane puppy tore my enormous potato pot to itty bitty pieces. I think it's fair if I steal his pool for potatoes. Don't you?

  5. Congrats on the feature! I love the pallet idea! I'm hoping to utilize old pallets to build an up-cycled privacy fence / trellis. :) Cheers, Jenni

  6. I'll have to try the kiddy pool idea since we have three right now. We'll be retiring our larger pool and replacing it, and now I know what to use it for.
